movie and a meal

There are over 100 channels here, never a dull moment...its Friday and we have a play date for the girls....

after movie, we go to a country restaurant, which is only ten minutes away. There are many restaurants like this in Hualien, run by husband & wife. Every one is unique and the people who run them are also incredibly unique......Style of cooking is a blend of east & west. Cooking methods and spices are definitively Oriental, but served in a Western style on a platter with starch, veggies and condiments. Dinner for the six of us cost $30US, no tips. Ray Rombough should like it here: food is cheap and no tipping.

After dinner, Frankie and her two friends put on a show......these are the two sisters who just returned from the US a year ago, and a good opportunity to practise their English together.

  1. Hey Jack, sounds like you guys are really settling down over there. Is that all you guys do is eat? LOL!! Hope you guys are all ok with the storm, Frankie must be scared. I've been following your blog couple times a week because I just find it fascinating!
Frankie must be loving her new life meeting new kids and going to her new school, she starts in Sept just like here right? Does she have to wear uniforms in the catholic school like HK??

I will check back again real soon, miss you guys!

  2. Brie,

Frankie is adapting real fast. She has new friends, in fact, those two in the video also just came back from the US, so they speak English together. Eating out is big here as most don't cook at home. Food is really cheap. School starts on 8/31, she is enrolled in the best private school here with white English teachers. She is in some summer classes and acting as interpreter between the white teacher and students already. Yes, its a Catholic school, uniforms, and the whole nine yard.
